TBD’s Night of the Long Knives. Washington City Paper reports big cuts. Editor’s note: TBD, apparently, wasn’t meeting Allbritton’s revenue expectations. It’s very tough news for the talented news staff it hired. The good work by the journalists at TBD, and there was lots of good work, was often linked by local bloggers, even those not part of its network. Good reporters are a force of nature, capable, self-reliant, and inventive, and it is easy to believe that the affected TBD staff will do well. For TBD itself, I wouldn’t count it out. The original vision was a three-to-five year growth plan, and it may yet achieve its goals if Allbritton can stay true to the idea of mainstream media working in concert with local bloggers. — kob.
