There was a protest at the West End Library Saturday that included Ralph Nader (WaPo report) over a plan to redevelop that site. Sharpening the opposition was the District Council’s “emergency” legislation last week to speed the redevelopment process. Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space rounds up some of the comments and summarizes: A sweetheart land sale deal smells pretty “unsweet.” Although, EastBlanc Inc., officials told people at an information session Saturday at the library that they have met with community representatives, I don’t think people really understand this project. Personally, I think it may also be a good idea to FOIA the project documents and post them online. If the District’s elected officials feel there’s an “emergency” then it ought to be laid out in documents and in emails.
